The first time I encountered something other than a Stygian, it was nerve wracking, which I guess is what they were going for.

I didn't like the combat at first, but as I learned the enemy's patterns and learned what to expect, it got a lot more enjoyable. My personal favorite case is probably 'Silence is Golden' because I got to kill a dog murderer. The side cases are fun, they let you level up a lot without buffing you up with super powered items. I really love how it's set up as a bunch of really short cases instead of one big long case.

Super Fun Game I wouldn't have bought it at the full price though. It's not for everyone, but it is for fans of the mythos. It has a lot of reading and lore to discover, very few (and mild) bugs in my experience, and combat that isn't exactly it's greatest strongsuit, but totally functional and appropriate for the setting of this game. Tl dr - A fantastic and utterly essential horror experience for any Lovecraftian fans like myself. It's totally worth it if you have the patience, but I understand if some don't.

Also, fair warning: a lot of the content in this game is reading. The music is perfect, the scenery is perfect, the combat isn't particularly extraordinary, but this game really isn't focused on the combat. The atmosphere is perfect in this game too! Not to spoil too much, but you'll find that there are citizens of this city that are, shall we say, appropriately designed for the demonic supernatural theme of this game. Also, if you set the difficulty right, you'll find that there's little in the way of handholding, allowing you to immerse yourself into the world of this sinking city. Arkham Knight, Marvel's Spiderman, etc.) There's tons of exploration, tons of horrific lore, and tons of enemies that are inexplicably unnatural entities from beyond. It's like a mix of The Evil Within and one of those open world hero games (i.e. This is probably one of the best Lovecraftian games out there.
